Man. I let my friend
Man. I let my friend drive my car today while I was there (as we all kno I am a lazy ass when it comes to driving...), and he managed to scrape my car against a brick corner (it's sort of on the way when backing out of my parking spot at home). Needless to say, I was annoyed at him and really pissed at myself. So, right after the incident, I said I would drive. And the entire time, I was sort of expecting to hear a "I'll pay for it" as a courtesy remark even if he didn't really want to pay for it, you know? I don't know if I was just expecting too much, but I kind of thought that people were supposed to say that. But since he didn't, the only reason I could come up with is that I was the one who was a lazy POS, and if I asked him to drive my car, I should deal with the consequences. So, I was having a heavy debate in my head, trying not to be mad, but obviously getting madder and madder. Well, apparently he figured it out (that I was mad; he can be sort of clueless at times) and was like "You know, I'm going to pay for the damages, obviously." And THEN I felt sort of stupid. I dunno, was I supposed to just assume he would? I always thought people were supposed to say they would before the other person would go off believing so. I dunno, but anyway, yeah, there is a huge scratch on my bumper now *sniffle*. My poor baby.
On the other hand, Portia and Simon have been ridiciously bad recently. Apparently my Japanese screens + dog stopper (you know, the gate looking things that are supposed to block off a room for kids or dogs?) idea didn't work as well. Portia and Simon have jumped, moved, climbed past the barriers for the last three days, pissing my cousin off to no end. So, today, Scott and I spend a few hours trying to fix this problem (as I think my cousin's patience has deteriorated by A LOT). We tied strings around the Japanese screens, thinking that if the fabric didn't move as much, they wouldn't be able to climb out. We were REALLY wrong about that one. Simon took a grand total of half a minute to get past that one. It was sort of funny; we used Simon as our "attacker" (as Scott put it in security terms), and we were proving that even with complete knowledge of how the system works (ie, he could move the fabric a little bit), our system was provably secure (wow, did we go into dork terms or what?). You know, the whole idea that good crypto systems have no secrets. I was telling Scott that he shouldn't show Simon the possible weaknesses, and Scott threw that stuff at me. I think it must be TAing the security class that is doing this to him. But anyway, we spent a good amount of time before we think we found the right solution. We pulled Portia out of the living room and shut the barrier again, and this final time, Simon wasn't able to get out. But, both of us are worried that it's only because he was just too tired to try (we did make him do it like five times...). I dunno. I guess the ultimate test comes tomorrow. Hope it works *cross fingers*
