Umm...call me a stalker?
So. As most of you know, I have this weird and I guess slightly perverse habit of reading links off of my friends' blogs. So, every once in a while, I'll click through to somebody else's website and entertain myself for a few minutes (or hours, however you want to look at it).
ANYWAY. So today, I did the same thing. Except, there was another link on her webpage, and as you know, I am a link whore, so I clicked through (god, wouldn't advertising companies just LOVE me?). And there was this (ok, don't shoot me for my stupidity) quiz that was like "We'll predict how long your next crush is" or something stupid like that "just fill out the following information: name, email, first and last crushes name, do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend, how do you feel about them, do you masterbate, watch porn?" and then BOOM. I click "go" and do you know what happens? IT WAS A FAKE (ok, so I am sure everybody knew that BUT me). And what did it do? It sent all my information (including my damned name) TO THE GIRL I LINKED OFF OF.
Yes. So, basically, what happens is that this girl, that I don't know, but who happens to know a lot of my friends, will read all this embarrassing shit about me. And she will probably be like "WTF?" and tell all these people (or maybe just a select few, or maybe be like "Do you know this chick?", and SOMEBODY will say yes, and then I'll just die. . .).
Wonderful.
. . .
I am a stalker. *sigh*

my PICTURES!!!
Argh. I was going to brag that I finally decided to upload my Hokkaido pictures. But then, I looked, and they are MISSING from my gallery. I have no idea why. I used Gallery Remote, and it faked me out and said that it uploaded everything. It even did the whole "transfer at what speed, what percentage was done", but alas, it was all a CRUEL JOKE. WHERE ARE MY DAMN PICTURES. I feel lied to.
See if I post pictures again. That'll teach you, Gallery Remote!
Ok, I am a retard.

Andy Lau
Despite being almost 43, Andy Lau is still hot. I'm not really sure why, but sometimes he just looks good . Hehehe.
Oh...I got a mini-ipod as well. Pink. In case you're wondering. I am whipped by it. It doesn't get to leave my house until I get a case on it. I am SO retarded.
And if you haven't seen "Shaun of the Dead", go see it. It's funny and scary at the same time. Aptly titled as a "romantic comedy with zombies." Which is...well, basically what it is. On the other hand, watching too many zombie films has started actually making me scared of them.

Back in PIT
Oh. I'm back.
Things learned/experienced on this flight:
1. UA still sucks. I am a devote supporter of Singapore and Continental. If they weren't so damn expensive all the time (Singapore), or flew to the places I wanted it to (Continental), those would be the only ones I fly.
2. There DO still exist airplanes that force people to watch a movie in the middle of the section (instead of the back of the seat in front of you). Guess I had been spoiled by good airlines (read: NOT United) that I forgot. Doh.
3. Chicago airport security is dumb. Who splits a line into two lines, and then REMERGES them half way down? Was there a POINT??
4. People in the back section of the plane of an international flight smell FUNNY. The whole section smells funny. It's very strange and a little disturbing.
5. Mousse (contents under pressure) does not explode with change in air pressure (something I was totally freaking out about).
6. Oh. And airplane flood? Still sucks. But I do have to give props to UA for the alchohol service (which I did not partake in, but did take notice). When I flew to Europe, AA did not offer free alchy-hol on the international flight (which I thought was default), so I just assumed it was a cost cut. So, I was thoroughly surprised when United busted out the white/red wine and a selection of hard liquors for FREE.
7. Chicago airport's initials are OHD. Why OHD? No clue.
That's about it. Back to the life of a grad student. . .

Water on Notebook = BAD
Yesterday, I was bright enough to spill about half a cup of water all over my laptop. Yeppers, I did the bright thing of leaving an open container of water right next to my laptop and managing to spill it all over my laptop via my chair (small space, hippo me trying to move around (ungracefully) = mashed chair against desk with water onto laptop). Not fully freaking out over the ramifications of water on laptop (b/c I am dumb), I just mopped up the water, moved the mouse, pushed some buttons, and went on merry way (packing). My mom comes in, wants to use the computer, and my computer comes to a crashing halt when she tries to move the mouse. Of course, because I am DUMB, I don't make any sort of connection between water and laptop failure, and instead of turning it off and leaving it off (as I read later, is the SMART thing to do), I TRY TO TURN MY LAPTOP BACK ON. Back on (which my dad later says incredulously at my sheer stupidity, "Did you REALLY study EE as an undergrad?")!!! This is of course, while there is lots of ionic particles (from the water) milling around in my laptop, ready to happily fry my laptop to a bloody pulp at any moment's notice (well, if there is some current, which I am desperately trying to supply). Of course, as the way electronics work, my laptop only sputtered a little, and then shut itself off (short). Good laptop, dumb dumb DUMB Ginger. Of course, I am in the middle of the throes of a Mild Panic Attack. I think there is some point in time where I contemplate just throwing my laptop out the window (fourth floor probably equals non-existent laptop), but of course I do not (as this is school property). So, lucky lucky me (there is of course a happy ending, otherwise this would be not be posted and I probably would have progressed from MPA to full-blown crazy panic attack), and 24 hrs later, the water has removed itself from my laptop, and it is now sputtering along in its old, "I need to be reformatted" sort of way.
I think I'm going to back up EVERYTHING on my laptop anyway.

Legs
My quads HATE me. They have revolted against me and are insisting on causing me shitpiles of pain when I walk (up and down stairs, walking, SITTING, goddamnit...).
I realize that this is most likely my own fault as I overdosed on the lunge/squats thing (until my legs felt like jelly and were "slightly" uncontrollably wobbly as I did other non legs things like bicep curls...). And then to top it off I felt fat, so I also ran for a while (while praying feverishly that my legs won't give out and I land in a heaping mess at the end of the treadmill like last time). and THEN, the next day I didn't feel anything (as it had been less than 12 hrs), I decided to go and take a hi/lo class and run some more. Those were pretty dumb too (for me to do).
Today, I am PAYING FOR IT.

Hair...oh my.
I did it. I permed my hair.
It's quite a bit different. I feel like a fob. I probably could pass for a fob. I like it. :) (not the fob part, the hair part)
I sort of feel like I should put on lots of makeup now and make myself beautiful.
Oh. And looking through lots of magazines to find the right haircut will also make one look at a lot of shoes (really pretty, "I want" kind of shoes). I can finally see why girls obsess with shoes. Well, SHIT.

Dreamin'
If there was a gym in Pittsburgh that offered Bodypump, I would die of happiness. Why do I live in a crappy city where the nearest facility that offers this is THREE hours away? *pout*
Maybe I can convince a gym to start it. I would totally be willing to be the instructor. Too bad I am not in shape enough (ohmigod, these instructors here make me feel like a wuss. but that is prolly why they are the instructor and not me).
I think if I had the right body, and the right frame of mind (ie willing to devote oodles of time to working out and eating healthy, where the eating healthy part is the hard part), I would forget about being a phd student and go be a fitness instructor instead. Coming back to Taiwan and only going to THREE classes has totally made me re-aware of how much the fitness classes in Pittsburgh super suck. I don't even think the whole instructor thing would've crossed my mind if I were not UBER DUBER bored with the classes we have now. I want to move to a city where exercise classes matter!!!
I love you, body training system. I am a slave to your workouts. Please come to a gym near me . . .

Hokkaido
I'm back from Hokkaido. Land of zilch internet access, lots of bus riding, and shit piles of seafood. Here is a summary of my adventures:
1. Typhoon #18 (apparently the Japanese do not name their typhoons) =
a. no electricity such that the "best" meal of the trip is eaten in the dark with some candles.
b. one of the "best" night views in the world (Hokadate) is off limits as the sky cart thing is closed.
c. bus ride is unbearably shaky as wind rocks bus A LOT
d. Getting off the bus includes things flying in eyes every three seconds
2. Taking two steam baths a day = super itchy skin
3. Scallops, no matter how fresh, eaten every meal of the day for a week = no scallops for a LONG ASS time.
4. Hokkaido is boring in September (the main two attractions, lavenders and snow are not available for viewing in September. The other attraction, the changing of the leaves, not happening until next month)
5. Finishing your book on the third day of the trip with a three hour wait at the airport and a 3 1/2 hr plane flight is a STUPID STUPID STUPID thing to do.
That was about it. We ate a lot of seafood, did some sightseeing. Mum and me bonded some. Didn't buy much stuff, ate a lot of chocolate. Apparently Hokkaido milk is very good (which it is), and their chocolate is good too (which it is too). Lots of mom and daughter pairs on the trip. I was rather surprised. Out of 28 people, there were four mom/daughter pairs. Apparently my mom and me are the ones that don't look like mom/daughter the most (which is, to me, surprising).

Food food and food
Yesterday was: a good start for my binge on awesome Chinese food. I wish i had brought a camera to take a picture of all the things we had, but I guess I can just recall: breakfast - rice porridge with fermented bean curd, tofu, pickled cucumbers. Lunch: Overseas pot stickers with soy bean drink (my FAVORITE pot stickers). Snack: mango and strawberry shaved ice (last time I came back I went on a rampage looking for mango shaved ice, but alas, winter is NOT the time for mangos, which I knew, but hoped for anyway. Dinner: rice with stewed pork, egg drop soup, and sushi triangle. Dessert: papaya milk. YUM!
So, yesterday I found the pink mini ipod at a store near where we live. I was UBER excited b/c they actually had it in stock. After contemplating for a long time (ie, 20 seconds), I decided I was going to get it. MINI IPOD, YAY! right? wrong. The box it came out in was a non-descript cardboard box with a mailing packing slip taped to it. And THAT WAS IT. I asked the sales rep like, "what's up with this?" and all he could give me was, "Maybe Apple is too busy to send nice packaging." Too busy to make nice packaging? Apple lives on nice packaging!!! I decided that even though it was like $20 cheaper to buy it here, it'd rather just pay the extra money and be sure that it was originally from Apple. So, no mini ipod for me. Boo.
Oh. And I went to the gym. I managed to take two BEGINNING classes. Was really boring. Two hours of working out, and I didn't even think my heart rate really picked up. I sweat a shit pile since they didn't really have much AC, but calorie rise? Not so much. Boo.
My mum and I are going to Hokaido for a week next week. My dad was afraid that I would bitch about him coming home really late at night for dinner, so he decided to ship my mum and me off to Japan. Hehe. Guess I won't be doing all that work that I brought back.
