Water on Notebook = BAD
Yesterday, I was bright enough to spill about half a cup of water all over my laptop. Yeppers, I did the bright thing of leaving an open container of water right next to my laptop and managing to spill it all over my laptop via my chair (small space, hippo me trying to move around (ungracefully) = mashed chair against desk with water onto laptop). Not fully freaking out over the ramifications of water on laptop (b/c I am dumb), I just mopped up the water, moved the mouse, pushed some buttons, and went on merry way (packing). My mom comes in, wants to use the computer, and my computer comes to a crashing halt when she tries to move the mouse. Of course, because I am DUMB, I don't make any sort of connection between water and laptop failure, and instead of turning it off and leaving it off (as I read later, is the SMART thing to do), I TRY TO TURN MY LAPTOP BACK ON. Back on (which my dad later says incredulously at my sheer stupidity, "Did you REALLY study EE as an undergrad?")!!! This is of course, while there is lots of ionic particles (from the water) milling around in my laptop, ready to happily fry my laptop to a bloody pulp at any moment's notice (well, if there is some current, which I am desperately trying to supply). Of course, as the way electronics work, my laptop only sputtered a little, and then shut itself off (short). Good laptop, dumb dumb DUMB Ginger. Of course, I am in the middle of the throes of a Mild Panic Attack. I think there is some point in time where I contemplate just throwing my laptop out the window (fourth floor probably equals non-existent laptop), but of course I do not (as this is school property). So, lucky lucky me (there is of course a happy ending, otherwise this would be not be posted and I probably would have progressed from MPA to full-blown crazy panic attack), and 24 hrs later, the water has removed itself from my laptop, and it is now sputtering along in its old, "I need to be reformatted" sort of way.
I think I'm going to back up EVERYTHING on my laptop anyway.
