Out of curiousity, how did you find out?

I've thought about using one of the various encrypted aim plugins, but then both people have to be using it, and most people aren't paranoid enough for me to be able to convince them ;).

Alternatively, I've been thinking about setting up an ssl tunnel to home or something, so at least it's not on the campus network in the clear...

If you are doing it at work, most probably the IT department. I know a lot of companies are cracking down on internet usage at work. Maybe she got a little notice from IT department that states that "we KNOW what you are doing"... kind of thing.

Just to keep the employees in line. Remember, they can always get you. :) If nothing else, they can see the traffic that is coming from your IP to the Gateway. If it is relatively higher than other people's, then you must be doing something ... counter productive? :)
