Smallish rant
Ok...so *in general* I don't think I'm a huge birthday kind of person. In actuality, this upcoming birthday is sort of freaking me out for some reason. I was ok with turning 25, and turning 26 was no biggie. But TWENTY SEVEN is making me going into some weird freakout mode. It might be b/c when I was young I used to think I would be married and have a kid by 28 (and that was only if I didn't make my initial goal of 26 with a kid -> and yes, this was like when I was super young and 26 seemed like a billion years away). But now I'm turning 27 and those weird dreams of parental "bliss" are uh...not anywhere in sight (which is really ok with me). But still, it garners some weird panic attack in me that I am turning OLD...
But anyway...I digress. What I meant to ramble about is that even though I'm not a HUGE birthday fan...I kind of still feel that birthdays are oh, I dunno, slightly significant? I sort of feel like excuses of not coming to a bday dinner that are "I dunno, I might be too tired" are pretty LAME. What kind of friendship is that if you can't even MUSTER up the "energy" to have dinner with a friend when it's her birthday? It's not even the cases of birthday. When friends come into town, I feel like it's my obligation to spend as much time with them (as they want, b/c they might have other friends as well) since I don't see them very often, but I have friends who say things like "I'm too lazy to hang out" when that person is only in town for like a day or two. It makes me wonder about the value of their friendship. Is it really too much to ask for special occasions to suck it up and hang out with your friends?

You're right. 26 was ok but 27 is straight up depressing... BTW - happy birthday
