Blog Update!
Month and a half of not blogging. Guess I should say "something."
SO! Let's do my very sad and pathetic snowboarding log:
Jan 5 - Sierra
Jan 6 - Kirkwood -> Sierra (stupid avalanche control)
Feb 2 - Sugar Bowl
Feb 23 - Squaw Valley
Feb 24 - Sugar Bowl
Past weekend was pretty awesome. I wasn't so impressed with Sugar Bowl the first time around (Feb 2), but second time around, maybe it was all the snow, dunno...but it was super fun. Too bad at the summit it was basically a white-out. Literally going down blindly and HOPING it wasn't a cliff that I was about to fall off of. The "chutes" were super fun. Couldn't get enough of it. Got stuck in some serious power for like a good half hour though (on the first run down). I think I was flailing like a complete idiot. Why taking off my board and crawling out NEVER occurred to me befuddles me now as well. But I did finally get out of it, so it's ALL good. And the next times around I did MUCH better. I even managed to weather some bumps and catch "some" air (u kno, when you didn't expect the bump and pop up, and have to land), and didn't wipe out. So that was pretty exciting to me. I did wipe out pretty hard a couple of times though. Managed to make my back crack as I had my lower half flip over my upper half which was stuck in the snow. I think I laid face down in the snow for a good 3 minutes before I could move again. Also wiped out normally just going down fast and having back foot slide out underneath me. Haven't had THAT kind of fall in a long time. My neck hurts. :( But as they say, "it's a growing experience." HA.
Squaw was *slightly* disappointing to me, and I think that may have just been the weather. I really wanted to do KT-22 a few times, but I only got to do it once, and it was really quite abysmal. The storm was setting in, and we had NO idea where we were going. Felt pretty stupid as I was desperately clutching the mountain while skiers were just zooming by us like it was no big deal. By the time I tumbled down the mountain, it was time to go. :( We were mainly on top of High Camp for a while (dunno why really. wtf was I thinking?) And basically was white-out conditions there too. Couldn't even stand the crosswinds were so strong. Literally stood up and got knocked off my feet by the wind. And it wasn't just me. People around me fell too. :P Although what I *did* learn this weekend was that having a fellow skier is AWESOME. Slow flat parts aren't half as bad when you have a skier pulling you along. :)
I think that's about it. I've decided that I *must* have a 4x4 car/SUV. So that will have to happen sometime soon (maybe next year though, sigh). Dunno how many more times I will get to go this year. This season has been awesome. Want to go some more, I think I will be able to make at least one more trip. Hopefully I can make a couple more after that was well.
