MX-5

So...this past weekend I went car hunting. Specifically MX-5 hunting. I went to test drive a fully loaded silver 2006 MX-5 with 17k miles on it:

And then I went test driving a fully loaded stormy blue 2008 MX-5 on it:

So seriously, I am freaking IN LOVE with the stormy blue. I think it is super sexy (or however sexy a Miata can really be). The only problem is that I know that a brand new car is not financially the smartest thing to do. The price difference between the 2006 and 2008 is 5k. And so, I'm basically deciding if a paint job (with a few less dings) is worth 5k. The used car is in pretty immaculate condition I will say (small ding, cracked keyless entry remote thingie), but overall, it's still pretty new. The only problem is that I'm not *really* into the silver. I mean, it's "OK", but I am not freaking "IN LOVE" with it.

This is what is running through my head:

Poops for the used car:
1. Not the color I love.
2. I don't *really* need all those features, but it does have the black leather interior which is apparently hard to come by.
3. I get less warranty on it since it's used.
4. I'm not the first owner and I dunno what has been done to the car.

Yays for the used car:
1. It is MUCH cheaper.
2. It's freaking fully loaded.
3. I don't HATE the silver.
4. I won't have to baby the car since it's not new or "the love of my life"
5. It's ok if I destroy the clutch (since I'm still sort of learning to drive manual)
6. (Not REALLY a yay, but more like good samaritan?) The dude who is selling it really needs to sell it and he hasn't found anyone in a while. I think he is desperate and I feel kinda bad for him.

Poops for the new car:
1. Slightly more than I was expecting to spend on the car
2. Also comes with some packages that I don't really need, but apparently dealer really wants to move THIS car.
3. Paranoia that I will either destroy the car with my bad manual driving skills or that someone will DING MY CAR. OMG OMG OMG.

Yays for the new car:
1. Color I want with the interior I want!
2. Grand Touring - so it's pretty well loaded.
3. New car. NEW CAR SMELL. YAY.
4. More warranty.
5. (Once again) COLOR I WANT.

I mean, I feel like I refuse to compromise which is why I am in this situation now. Technically, I *can* afford the new car, it's just that, SHOULD I. If that makes any sense. GAH.

the stormy blue does look pretty hot... i come from the line of thought that if i'm going to spend money on something, i should spent that little bit extra to make it worth more to me. you've had a taste of both, so if you end up buying the silver one you might always be thinking about that blue one in the back of your head. for me, buying something more expensive but nicer will make me take care of it and baby it that much more. for example, when looking for a new pair of glasses i always choose something that i absolutely love regardless of price. if i choose something of less value to me i end up losing that pair of glasses or not caring for it as much as i would the other pair. there's a lot more into the purchase of course, like the difference in mileage and the changes between the 06 and 08 model, but stormy blue is pretty hot :)
