A baker I am not. :(

So today, I got super excited when I saw this recipe:
http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/01/in-the-kitchen-with-anne-bramley.html

And since I had all of the ingredients (except sugar, go figure), I decided to make it. Another chance with my beautiful, awesome, mixer!

So I basically followed the recipe to a T. I even added all of the butter it told me to (something that I almost never do). But somehow...I *still* managed to overcook the cupcakes a little bit too much (I put it in for 18min exactly like it said! And sigh...just a LITTLE too dry). And then...my ganache...never solidified. And that one just befuddles me. :( After waiting for about an hour for the ganache to cool to a "spreadable" consistency, I just ended up putting it in the fridge because I needed to go to bed (and it didn't freaking become spreadable). This makes me sad because it IS supposed to solidify. SO I DON'T GET IT. I even learned this time to let my cupcakes cool to room temperature! Too bad the ganache never got hard enough for me to actually SPREAD THE STUFF. Bah.

Will try again tomorrow and see how it goes. But I am definitely sad.

Ganache can be very tricky (it's a deceptively simple recipe). I'm wondering if maybe your cream didn't come to enough of a boil? Also sometimes I trip up by not cutting my chocolate pieces into small enough chunks (or cheating and using chips, which are not so melting-friendly). Keep trying, though, you'll figure it out!

Also, sometimes ovens run hot (or cold) so you usually want to start checking on your whatever 5-10 minutes in advance of the time in the recipe -- at least the first time you're making them. Once you've figured out how long it takes to bake in your particular oven, you can set the timer accordingly for subsequent batches.
